Why? Because they are so easy!

First of all, we are only talking about “right” triangles. The Pythagorean Theorem is famous because it will always find the missing side of any right triangle as long as you have two sides.

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

So 3^2 + 4^2 = 5^2

9 + 16 = 25

25=25

3-4-5 triples always work, meaning any multiples of 3-4-5 also work. When you recognize them, it’s a piece of cake! These special sets of numbers are called Pythagorean Triples.

Are there other triples that you use? My other favorite set of Pythagorean Triples is 5-12-13. They are everywhere!
