Math and The Americans With Disabilities Act

By Grant, 8th Grade

Slope is a huge part of math, but how does it impact everyday life? Here’s one way.

The ADA, founded in 1990, stands for Americans with Disabilities Act.

The ADA makes construction rules and regulations to help people who have disabilities.

For example, the ADA makes all public places accessible to disabled people by requiring ramps.  The slope of the ramps must be 1 foot rise : 12 feet run.  This is a standard for the industry. The ratio of 1:12 is the best measure of steepness to handle the weight of a wheelchair.

The ADA is just one  example where slope (math) makes the world a safer and better place.
